JANET (Japan Academic Network in Europe) is an organization for the exchange of academic information between Japan and Europe established by Japanese universities and academic institutions most of which have offices in Europe. In 2015, JANET was founded through the efforts of Keiichi Kodaira, Director of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science’s (JSPS) Bonn Office, and Kyosuke Nagata, President of the University of Tsukuba.

JANET is a loose network created by Japanese universities and academic institutions which are expanding their activities to or already have liaison and/or research/educational exchange offices in Europe and are seeking to work together for more efficient operations in Europe. JANET hopes to strengthen the presence of Japanese scholarship in Europe and facilitate the acquisition and circulation of European academic information.
